H-Bomb

Modeled front view of the completed sweater; it has a square neckline and deep ribbing at the waist. The neckline and short sleeves are bordered in seed stitch.

Pattern: Bombshell by Stephanie Japel (published in the book "Big Girl Knits")

Started: July 12, 2010

Finished: December 9, 2010

Made for: Síle aka me

Size: 2XL bust, XL waist

Yarn: Bernat Satin (100% acrylic; 200yds = 100g)
  • 3.5 skeins of "4201 Aqua" = 700 yds
Needle sizes: 5.0mm/ US 8 & 3.5mm/ US 4

Notes: Finally found enough balls of this yarn, in the same color, to make this sweater! Swatched, cast-on & started before bed :)
7/19/10: Cast-on the front sts at knit night tonight :) Going great guns now that as am now working in the rnd :) Really love the "simplicity yet need to pay attention"-ness of this pattern.
7/21/10: Nearly to the first try-on! :)
7/22/10: Tried on at first size; too small ;) Will try-on again when I reach 26rnds (size 2x) as am not sure what will fit better. Love that I can try this on & adjust to fit. Also love how quick it's working up. I think I'll be making another one (or more) in different color :)
11/24/10: Reached spot to try on for 2x size: perfect :) Have divided to continue the body down. Need to reread section on short rows as need a few in front.
12/07/10: Only have a couple inches to go & to put the edging on the neck & sleeves :) I love how this is turning out :)
12/09/10: Finished body & neck border tonight :) Just sleeve edgings left for later today :) (is 12:46am)
1/23/11: Have changed my happiness to neutral: wore it to a party last night & it kept riding up whenever I moved my arms :( Going to frog back to the waist darts & add some length. Also not happy with the appearance of the front waist darts. They're very prominent & distracting.

Additional photos:
Modeled side view of the nearly completed sweater.
12/07: getting close

Modeled front view of neckline; it's not bordered yet and curls slightly.
12/07: I like where this is sitting

Badly lit photo of the sweater laid flat on a bed. The sleeve stitches are on hold, the body stitches on a circular needle.
11/24: split between body and sleeves

Badly lit photo of the knitting on the needle. By the direction of the stitches in different visible sections you can tell it's bunched up a bit.
7/21: getting close to enough rows for the first try-on

The first 20 or so rows of knitting showing one of the increase lines between the sleeve sts and front stitches.
7/12: I've started :)
