Notes: I’m changing this up a bit as am making it for a birthday gift. I plan to use the blue for embroidering the name & age on the top of the cake and hope to find some musical themed scrapbooking bits to put around the cake in place of the roses. I think it’ll be a good surprise for him. David is my dance teacher as well as a really dear friend & he’s hitting the milestone age of 30 (!) in October.
9/13: Nearly finished the cake board last night :)
9/15: Did finish the cake board last night! Not working on it today; have dance & don’t want David to see it ;)
9/23: The cake top is my project for my Wascana Park KIP Adventure! Check out my blog for more details.
9/24: The cake top is done!!! Also the icing triangles!!! Just need to knit up the shell piping & the knitting portion of this is done!!!
9/25: I have all the pieces knit!!!! Just need to sew it up! And take/ post pics :)
9/26: Added pic of bits.
10/12: After being knocked flat by sinus troubles last week, I’ve finally gotten the thing sewn together!!! I like how it turned out but am not sure I want to make others; I really dislike all the sewing up :(

Additional photos:

9/26: All sewn together! These note charms are the perfect decorations for David's cake :)

The various pieces of the cake and icing before being sewn together
9/26: Everything awaiting the swing together

The cake board piece: a circle knit with cream (cake color) in the center, and light gray (tray color) on the outside. It's not sewn up yet, awaiting its cardboard stiffener piece.
9/13: The unstuffed cake board. I like how the two colors made it easy to sew the cake body to the board; I only had to follow around and not guess where the cake should sit, keeping the cake from being lopsided on the tray
