Red Beaded Peasy-easy Scarfy-dealy

A garter stitch shawlette or scarf with a pointed lace edging. There are beads along the edging points; little glints in this photo.

Pattern: Pimpelliese by Christine Ebers (originally published on her blog, Spinning Martha; now available on a Google Drive of her patterns as pdfs found here)

Started: September 22, 2010

Finished: October 6, 2010

Made for: Sionan

Yarn: Patons Grace (100% cotton; 136yds = 50g)

  • 2 balls of "62705 Cardinal" = 272 yds
Needle size: 3.75mm/ US 5

Notes: also have 2 tubes of Darice “Toho treasure beads” 5mm triangles silver-lined red

Have strung 1 tube of beads onto 1st ball of yarn & am swatching on 3.75mm needles. Need to experiment where am placing beads as well.

9/23/10: So far so good :) Am placing 3 beads per point (ie 12 row rep) & am done 6 points as of this morning :) As I have 2 balls of yarn, I plan to knit the inc portion with 1 ball, then join in the 2nd ball to work the dec portion.
9/24/10: Have 12 & a bit points done :) Going very well :)
9/27/10: Finished first ball/ half at knit-night :) Need to string beads on ball 2. Have 15 points; was 3 rows away from 16 points but ran out of yarn :p
9/30/10: After a good tv/knit time last night, I have 6 points past the half done :) Added a 2nd pic this morning; snapped it on the bus, need to get a better one.
11/20/10: must add that Sionan absolutely loved this :) Especially the teapot charm :)

Additional photos:
First 3 points of the scarf completed showing how the beads look.
9/22: going well so far :)

Close up of the finished shawlette showing the teapot charm I added between the center two points as an added decoration.
10/06: Sionan loves Brown Betty teapots so I added this one to her present

In progress: 6 points finished on the decreasing side of the shawlette
9/30: it's coming along so nicely!

The finished shawlette, folded to show layers of the edging and the sparkles of the beads
10/06: All finished. I like how the beads give it just a pop of sparkle; understated glitz
