Notes & photos: Alright! Getting back on track! I marked the original project as frogged, which it was, and am starting a clean slate for this going forward. ****Original project**** CURRENTLY GOES TO MY RAVELRY NOTEBOOK!!!!

I’m also declaring this as my Year 2 class project for Gemology at Ilvermorny; I find the colors of the bag reminiscent of Obsidian, both the standard black (represented by the coal yarn) and rainbow (obviously the rainbow yarn)

Declaration post

8/03: Casting on! So much neater with the 3.0mm hook blush

7 rows in and pausing for the hockey game… words I never thought I’d type in August ice_hockey_stick_and_puck

later: finished 14 rows tonight (40 rows left in the base) and now I’m beyond tired. Added photo of my progress.

Collage: top - the start of a piece of double-knitting showing a rainbow variegated design on a black background. Bottom: a black design on a rainbow variegated background.

8/07: Halfway through the base! Just finished row 27 blush

And more hockey to come! My Habs beat the Pens 3 games to 1 to advance to the next round. A minimum of 4 games more (best of 7 series

8/08: 27 rows done; halfway!
Collage: Top - A Celtic knotwork motif knit in rainbow variegated on a black background. Bottom - Same motif knit in black on a rainbow variegated background.

8/10: finished the base!
Collage of the two sides of the completed base. One side has a Celtic knotwork motif knit with black on a rainbow variegated background, while the other photo is of the same motif knit with rainbow variegated on a black background

8/18: I picked up the sts along the edges, reversibly, and have 2 rnds done on the bag sides so far.
Collage: two of the photos show the edges needing to be picked up, and the other two show both sides of the base with the stitches picked up around it.

8/25: sides coming along nicely
Collage of two photos, each one showing one side of the double-knit bag in progress.

8/30: Happy to report this is coming along great blush Smooth sailing until the eyelet rnd (rnd 64)

9/01: bit more done
Collage showing both side as the inside or outsode

9/14: a little more done
View of the bag that makes it easy to tell the piece is double-knit

9/22: This is coming along great blush I have finished rnd 25 of the bag side chart; only 48 to go!
The knotwork motif is getting more filled in

10/27: A few more rounds done
The sides are growing. The motif is showing more of its design.

11/03: quite a few rounds done this week
The motif is becoming more recognizable.

Feb 1: only a few more rounds done
The motif is growing.

Feb 22: closer to halfway through the knotwork
The motif is becoming more larger and more recognizable.

March 2: (first FiberKind campus check-in) a couple more rounds done
The motif is filling in from where it was in the last photo.

March 10: bit different of a view and can compare the finished bottom to the in progress sides
Flattened view showing the bottom (full rainbow knotwork on black), and two of the sides; one side is the partial rainbow motif on black, the other is the partial black motif on rainbow background.

March 16: almost time to join in the second skein of black!
Flattened view of two of the sides, one with rainbow background, the other with black. The knotworks are right around half completed now.

March 23: little by little, it's coming together
Focus on one of the rainbow background sides, showing how far along the knotwork, in black, is. Over halfway now

April 25: Joined in my second ball of black about 3/4 through rnd 39. Can now say I've knit 166 yds at least; the rainbow still has quite a bit to go on the first ball. Some progress anyway! Must keep going!

April 27: Time for the weekly photo!
In progress photo, a partially knit black knotwork motif on a rainbow variegated background. It's visible how few rounds remain to match the top to the bottom of the knotwork.

May 4: I got a couple more rounds done, I think. I really don't know at the moment, and frankly I don't overly care too much. My heart has been broken into a billion pieces and all I can do is cry tonight
A partially knit black celtic knot motif on a rainbow variegated background. The knotwork is getting closer to being finished.

July 6: The motif is nearly done! Finally feels like this is going somewhere again :)
A black knotwork motif on a rainbow variegated background is closer to being finished.

July 13: 5 rnds passed the top of the motif this week :) 4 more, and I'll be putting in the eyelets for the drawstrings :)
Here's a look:
Rainbow variegated background with a black knotwork motif. The piece is in progress; you can see the needles a few rounds above the motif's top edge.

July 15: Roughly 1/3 through rnd 61 of the sides I joined in the second ball of the rainbow yarn :) And only 2 more rnds to go before I put in the eyelets :) Progress!!

July 20: Eyelets are in! I'm not quite sure about the process I used though; rather fiddly and not quite as neat as I'd have liked. Might redo the last 4 rnds. Here's what it looks like currently:
As described in the paragraph above.

July 27: Yeah, that was not the best way to go about the eyelets. Not so calmly tinking back the last 3 rnds to try this again.
View from above of the loose strands from the top of the eyelets hanging into the bag as the current round is unknit stitch by stitch.

Feb 1/22: Oops! It's been more than a minute since I last picked this up. I'm just getting the last of the eyelet round removed and then I can try this again! Wow this has taken waaaaaayyyyy longer than I'd envisioned. Time to get this done and dusted. And published!

Ok, that's "reset".
The bag being slightly held up to show that the eyelets have been removed and the bag is ready to be continued.

Feb 8/22: Am up working on rnd 68 :) Will have to neaten the sides of the eyelets on the rainbow sides of the bag; the rainbow yarn is slightly thinner than the black and that really became apparent when putting in the eyelets. Good thing to remember! And I'll add a note about it to the pattern. Here's where things are right now:
Two sides of the bag are shown, one black background with rainbow knotwork, the other the opposite. We can see small blips of color near the top of the black background. The bag is still on the circular knitting needle as it's not quite finished.

Feb 18/22: Beginning of the end! I've started casting off the bag! Woot! I love it! And I'll love it even more once it's finished lol Here's how it's going:
The first cast off stitches of the round worked using both the rainbow yarn and the black yarn. It's situated over a black stockinette background section of the bag.

Feb 20/22: The bag is done! Well, the bag body is. The drawstrings still need doing :) And here's half the bag; I flattened it so two of the sides are visible:
Two sections, ie half the bag, with the cast-off fully completed.

later (2:01am): And that's the rainbow drawstring done :) And woven in with enough extra to make a nice handle. I knit 36" of i-cord on the same size as I knit the bag but I used dpns for it. I need to attach the ends but it's in and I took a photo:
Half the bag, ie 2 sides/sections, laid flat, with the rainbow drawstring woven through the eyelets. The ends of the drawstring aren't joined yet and the ends are sitting on the bag.

Feb 28/22: And done! 😊 It took a bit longer than I intended, but it's done with all the ends finished in and the cords are joined to themselves. The drawstrings even pull in nicely.
The finished bag with the drawstrings pulled tight.

July 13/23: Photos done today! Pattern release day set for July 18 😊
